About Timeline
Timeline is a free daily history game. You are given seven events, from ancient times to the modern age: battles, inventions, discoveries and famous moments. One is already on the timeline. Your job is to place the other six, one at a time, before or after the events you have already placed.
You don’t need to know exact years. You only need to know what came first. If you place an event in the wrong spot it moves to its true place, so the timeline keeps getting more useful as you go. Your score is how many you placed correctly, out of six.
Every player gets the same seven events each day, and a new set arrives at midnight.
What you’ll learn
- The order of key events in world history
- Roughly when empires rose and fell
- When famous inventions and discoveries happened
- How events in different parts of the world line up in time
Why play Timeline every day?
History is easier to understand when you know what happened before what. Timeline turns that into a quick puzzle: no long dates to memorise, just good judgement and a little general knowledge.
It goes well with the geography games, since every event happened somewhere. Free, quick, and no sign-up needed.
Timeline FAQ
Do I need to know exact dates?
No. You only need to know which event came first. Placing an event before or after the ones already on the timeline is enough.
What kind of events are in Timeline?
Moments from history, science, sport and culture, from ancient battles and empires to inventions and the Moon landing.
How many events do I place each day?
Six. A seventh event is already on the timeline to start you off, and your score is out of six.
Is Timeline free to play?
Yes. Timeline is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no limit on practice rounds. It works in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
