Guess the Flag: the flag quiz that reveals itself
Guess the Flag is a free flag quiz with a twist. A random country’s flag is hidden under six tiles, and you have six guesses to name it. Every wrong guess uncovers one more piece, so the flag slowly gives itself away. The fewer tiles you need, the better.
Each guess also tells you how far you are from the answer, in which direction, and how close you are as a percentage. A corner of red and white plus an arrow pointing towards South-East Asia already narrows it down, and the next tile often settles it.
How to play
- Look at the hidden flag. All six pieces are covered at the start.
- Type the name of a country. A wrong guess uncovers one piece.
- Use the colours you can see and the distance and direction hints.
- Name it within six guesses, then play the bonus rounds.
Bonus rounds
Once you have found the flag, five bonus rounds test what else you know about the country: pick its outline from four similar shapes, choose its national emblem, find the flag of its capital city, pick the flags of its neighbours, and guess its population and currency. A summary at the end puts it all together, with a result you can share.
What you’ll learn
- The flags of every sovereign country in the world
- How to tell look-alike flags apart, such as Chad and Romania or Indonesia and Monaco
- National emblems and the flags of capital cities
- Where each country is and which countries border it
Questions
How many flags are in the game?
Every sovereign country in the world. Each game picks a random one and avoids the countries you have had recently.
Can I play more than one game?
Yes, as many as you like. Hit New flag after a game for another country. Your games played, win rate and streak are kept in your browser.
Do I need an account?
No. Guess the Flag is free and works in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.
Is it good for learning flags?
Yes. Seeing a flag one piece at a time makes you notice its details, which is exactly what helps with look-alike flags.
