Guess the Country: the daily country outline game

Guess the Country is a free daily geography game. Each day you see one mystery country, shown only by its outline, and you have six guesses to name it. There are no flags, no labels and no multiple choice: just the shape and what you know about the map.

Every wrong guess gives you three clues: how many kilometres away the answer is, an arrow pointing towards it, and a closeness percentage. Guess Peru when the answer is Bolivia and you will know you are very close; guess Japan and the arrow sends you back across the world.

How to play

  1. Look at the outline of today’s mystery country.
  2. Type the name of a country. Islands, enclaves and coastlines are good clues.
  3. Follow the distance, arrow and percentage to close in. You have six guesses.
  4. Found it? Play the bonus rounds about the same country.

Bonus rounds

After the main round come quick bonus rounds about the same country: name its neighbours, then questions on its capital, flag, languages, population and currency, GDP per capita, biggest cities and area, wherever the data exists. At the end you get a summary you can share without spoiling the answer.

Questions

Is it the same country for everyone?

Yes. Everyone gets the same mystery country each day, and a new one starts at midnight in your time zone. After that you can play random practice countries as often as you like.

Do I need an account?

No. Guess the Country is free and runs in your browser on any phone, tablet or computer. Your streak is kept on your device.

What do the percentage and arrow mean?

The percentage shows how close your guess is, from 0% on the other side of the world to 100% for the right country. The arrow points from your guess towards the answer.

Why does the outline look bigger or smaller than usual?

Every outline is zoomed to fill the box, so a tiny country like Malta looks as big as Brazil. Judge the shape, not the size.
