The rules in 4 steps
- 1
Sixteen tiles hide four groups of four. Tiles can be flags, outlines, capitals or numbers.
- 2
Pick four tiles that belong together and press Submit. A right group turns into a coloured row.
- 3
A group is four countries with something in common, or four clues to the same country.
- 4
You can make four mistakes. “One away” means three of your four tiles were right.
Tips to score higher
Start with the tiles that can only mean one thing: a capital or a currency points straight at one country.
Four clues to the same country often hide among the flags: look for a flag, an outline and a capital that match.
Before you submit, check that a fifth tile doesn’t fit just as well. Each tile fits exactly one group.
Stuck? Shuffle the tiles. A new layout often shows a link you missed.
“One away” means three of your tiles belong together; swap one, not all four.
Questions about Country Connections
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes. The daily puzzle changes at midnight your time and is the same for everyone, so you can compare results. Practice puzzles are unlimited.
What do the colours mean?
How hard the group is: yellow is the easiest, then green, blue and purple, the trickiest.
Can a tile fit two groups?
It may look that way, but no. Every puzzle is checked so each tile fits exactly one group.
What happens after four mistakes?
You can see the answers, or keep going with no limit. The puzzle then no longer counts as solved.
